The pigtail bolt, also known as the pigtail eye bolt, pigtail hook, pigtail screw, pigtail hook screw, or pigtail fastener, is a specialized type of pigtail hardware.
FERR Pigtail Bolts feature a unique twisting design that ensures a reliable anchor point for wires or guy grips. Manufactured from high-grade steel, their spiral ends maintain integrity under significant strain, making them durable in demanding applications.
These bolts are specifically crafted for use on wooden, concrete, or other powerline poles, serving as support for dead-end clamps or suspension clamps. Their distinct helical shape, reminiscent of a “pigtail,” is the reason behind their name.
The shape and structure of pigtail bolts vary by region. For instance, the bolts used in Kenya and Zambia feature a welded square or round washer fixed at the neck. In contrast, Malaysian designs include two additional forged points on either side of the neck to secure the washer and prevent it from falling off.
A complete pigtail bolt set typically comprises one pigtail hook main body, two hex nuts, and two washers. During installation on wooden or concrete poles, the hex nuts and washers fasten one end to the pole, while the helical end is used to connect suspension clamps.
There is also a variation of the pigtail bolt that lacks threading and comes solely with a rounded end for specific use cases.
