The pin insulator is a crucial component in distribution line systems, designed to be mounted on the electrical cross arms of utility poles using bolts or pole-top pins for secure placement.
These insulators are predominantly utilized in low- and medium-voltage distribution networks. FERR produces pin insulators in both porcelain and polymer variants, ensuring compatibility with standard insulator pins through appropriate threading.
Pin-type insulators are installed on top of electrical poles or towers, with conductors securely fastened into grooves at the upper end of the insulator using a top tie mechanism. The materials used for these insulators include ceramic, porcelain, polymer, glass, or silicon rubber.
For low-voltage applications, single-piece insulators suffice; however, in higher-voltage scenarios, robust options such as two-piece or three-piece pin-type insulators are required. Due to their design and efficiency, they are generally suited for voltages ranging from 11 kV to 33 kV. At voltages exceeding 33 kV, pin insulators become less practical, as their size and cost increase significantly.
