Eye Nut

Eye nuts are primarily used for dead-ending, back-guying, and attaching pole head guys to the threaded ends of cross-arm bolts. They serve as essential components in mechanical and electrical applications, offering both strength and durability.

FERR eye nuts are typically paired with bolts or threaded rods to support or secure hardware. Forged for robustness and finished to ensure longevity, these eye nuts are ideal for use in overhead power lines and pole line construction.

Different types of eye nuts include thimble eye nuts, oval eye nuts, clevis eye nuts, and angle thimble eyelets. The thimble eye nut itself consists of variations like the standard thimble eye and the twin-eye model.

Oval eye nuts are specifically designed for use on the threaded ends of 1/2-inch or 5/8-inch machine bolts that pass vertically through cross arms, providing a secure attachment point for dead-end clamps. Thimble eye nuts are commonly assembled with threaded 1/2-inch or 5/8-inch eye bolts, which traverse wooden poles to support strain insulators against dead-end wires. Twin-eye nuts, on the other hand, are tailored for applications involving double guying.

The manufacturing process for eye nuts involves drop forging, where steel rods are used as the primary material. The steel rod is heated until it reaches a red-hot state, after which localized compressive force shapes it into the desired form. This process, combined with specialized tooling, produces different varieties such as thimble and oval eye nuts. To enhance their strength and finish, the forged eye nuts are polished before and after forging.

The center of each eye nut is threaded to ensure compatibility with its corresponding bolt. These threads are precision-drilled using bench drill machines and are carefully crafted to facilitate easy installation and secure attachment.
