The socket clevis, alternatively referred to as the socket tongue, is a critical component in the infrastructure of transmission lines, overhead lines, and power networks. This essential piece of pole line hardware serves as a connector between the tension clamp and socket-type insulator. Across various countries, the design and connections associated with socket clevises exhibit regional variations to meet specific requirements. For instance, in certain African applications, socket clevises are tailored for use with Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) cables exhibiting an outer diameter ranging from 7.00 mm to 18.2 mm (representing conductors from 25 mm² to 150 mm²). Moreover, they are compatible with standard disc insulators of the ball-and-socket type, characterized by a ball pin diameter of 16 mm.

FERR socket clevises are specifically engineered to connect insulator strings to transmission line components such as yoke plates and suspension clamps. Each unit is meticulously manufactured using forged steel to ensure precise dimensional tolerances. This guarantees optimal fitting and uniform stress distribution during operation.

The manufacturing process of FERR socket clevises predominantly employs cast iron and adheres to stringent procedural standards. Initially, the iron material undergoes heating from a solid to a liquid state. The molten iron is then carefully poured into molds designed to replicate the hollow geometry of the socket tongue. Once solidified, the cast is subjected to a subsequent annealing step to enhance material properties.

To ensure durability under extreme environmental conditions, the final step involves hot-dip galvanizing the socket tongue. This treatment effectively protects the component against corrosion, even in tropical climates characterized by humidity levels up to 90% and an average ambient temperature of +30°C. As a result, the socket clevis remains resistant to degradation despite prolonged exposure to harsh weather conditions.
